Heather is a social justice advocate and an honor’s graduate of the University of Florida. She hopes to one day lead effective policymaking at the federal level that will tackle important issues such as criminal justice reform, healthcare reform, gender-pay disparities, and more. Heather is an active community member and has met with both state and local representatives to discuss pressing issues facing our city and state today. In January 2020, she provided the framework for a bill sponsored by State Representative Joe Casello that later made its way into the Florida Statehouse titled HB1331 “Conviction history of an applicant for employment,” which aimed to “ban the box” and eliminate bias for formerly incarcerated individuals seeking employment. Heather continues her advocacy by working with the United Nations and American Red Cross.
